The week of Paris FW, I was invited to this amazing local sreet style fashion show by Ché the CEO & Founder of CHÉ a High end street wear clothing line based out of NYC. The designs were amazing, creative, aesthethic, artistsic, but it was very dark. I was wondering why so dark, but noticed that there were sparks in the darkness. Kinda like when you are walking into a dark place and looking for that light/glare to guide you. Well, that is what his collection Life represented. After seeing his collection walk down the runway, my interests remained amazed, I was fortunate, to sit down with CHÉ and asked a few questions about his collection. Please take this walk with me into CHÉ's world.

CEO & Founder of CHÉ with one of his Models

CI: What does Ché stands for and why did you choose that brand name?

C: Ché is my birth name. My aunt was the one that named me and she originally got it from the famous Che Guevara, Revolutionary leader of Cuba which overthrew the Bautista Regime in the late 50's. What made me want to use this as the brand name was because the reaction I get when people saw my name. When I told them where my name came from the reaction was amazing; they couldn't believe that was really my name and it brought more assumption to getting to know me so I figured why not be true to me. Plus all of the other brands I love and inspire me all used their real name such as Ralph, YSL, Gucci, and LV.

CI: Who is Ché Young?

C: Che Young is an open minded individual who values change in the world and is never satisfied with just okay; Che Young just wants to bring the best out people and others around him.

CI: How long have you been designing?

C: For only 1 year.

CI: Why did you choose to show your designs after NYFW and during Paris FW, is it a coincident?

C: Wow! I never realized it was Paris FW, especially since I got most of my aesthetic from Paris but I just honestly wanted people to experience a CHÉ show and not feel like this was only planned for NYFW.

CI: What inspired you to design/ become a designer?

C: What inspired me to become a designer was self-expression and creating the new generation. I wanted a platform where I can express what I wanted and not care what anyone had to say. It was a new challenge and new journey for me.

CI: What inspired you to design this collection, and what is the name of your collection?

C: What inspired me to design this collection was to create a movie and take people to a place that I was going through which was dark and needing to find my inner self. I knew if I was feeling this way there must be other people who could relate. That's what inspired the all black collection and named this story “LIFE”.

Fashion Accessories, Creative artwork & sculptor

CI: Will we as your fans see more accessories like the scarves, bags, etc... that was show in your collection?

C: Yes!!

CI: Are you interested in designing shoes, or sneakers?

C: That is honestly my goal. I feel like an outfit is not finish without the right pair of shoes.

CI: What's your favorite genre of music?

C: Hip-Hop

CI: Do you have a favorite painter, if yes who and do you go to art shows, museums regularly?

C: No. But painters are dope though.

CI: What is a fun day like for you when you are not designing?

C: Walking the city and going to events; I’m boring.

CI: What's your favorite color?

C: Love all colors but if black was a color that would be my favorite.

CI: Why an all-black collection?

C: When you think black you think dark, depressed, nothing good; during this time in my life I just felt lost and the only thing that was able to relate to that was black.

CI: Where can your fans purchase your new collection?

C: www.Che-NYC.com

CI: Do you travel often to see the world and its beautiful art that it is made of?

C: No! But we have the internet and Instagram now to take us there.

CI: If you had to choose a different career move what would it be, other than designer?

C: Professional athlete

Che has brought to the fashion design industry a diferent style of expression and meaning when it comes to communicating, having a voice through textiles, colors, and people. This year he expressed with the support of friends, other talents, his passion and his way of expressing what other peoople may not know how to express in words. For example, bullying, suicidal, hurt, pain, confusion, and rage. Che found freedom in his talent, and became a voice for all when in a dark place in his Life collection. He turned his darkness, and depression, into positivity. We all have our dark times and days. But with the help of others that are true, helps to open up in ways that does not seem possible. Who would have thought that you can communictae what your feeling when depressed, dark, hurt, on a paltform of fashion designing, sewing, choosing textiles, and clothes. A team is what get you to that place, but when others read this story they too will get to their place, due to a positive outlook of someone elses journey through a dark time in their LIFE.
